Welcome and thank you for visiting the Western Erie Canal Alliance (WECA) website.  We are proud to offer you a site where you can learn about our organization, our programs and about our unique communities along the historic banks of the Erie Canal and beyond.

Since 2008 WECA has been working to provide communities within the Western Erie Canal Heritage Corridor the capacity to  develop grass root leadership by providing the following:

  • WECA features   the  Western Erie Canal Main Street Program (WECMSP) based on the Four Point Approach® of  the National Trust for Historic Preservation Main Street Program. This program is successful in 1,200 communities nationwide.
  • WECA develops  designated Main Street communities that are self-reliant, locally empowered, locally owned, and pedestrian friendly.
  • WECA enhances consumer and investor confidence through the advocacy of sensitivity  to the preservation of distinctive historic architecture
  • WECA supports  local economies as each community creates new downtown businesses and increased revenues and employment.

Visit our communities and find out why the strength of the people of Western New York have enabled them to preserve their historical architecture, their unique natural resources and the real heart of New York.  Please join us as we celebrate  the successes we have experienced and the successes we hope to achieve.

If you or your company is interested in partnering with WECA and WECMSP to promote the community goals of:

  • providing professional educational and technical services to communities within the Western Erie Canal Heritage Corridor
  • strengthening  existing economic assets within the context of historic preservation
  • creating a positive image of our communities to rekindle community pride and improve consumer and investor confidence in our region
  • contact WECA at kise.wecmainst@gmail.com.  Thank you!
